The Bogwater Witches

When, one stormy night, the witch sisters Thora and Sybil Weird find a baby on the doorstep, they are thrilled- for this can only be the seventh child of a seventh child, with more power in her little finger than all the members of the Witches' institute put together. Hetty, however has other ideas. She wants to go to school and be an ordinary girl. And she uses her powers to foil the Witches' plans in every way she can. Kathy Still is a gifted comic writer and like all the best witch stories this is full of wonderful jokes and characters. There is mirror writing to be decoded, spells, recipes, a map amd a gazetteer as well as delightful drawings throughout.
